The PlayStation 4‘s Japanese performance is commendable even in its home country. On the Japanese market, the only main rival is the Wii U as the Xbox One is having close to no sales whatsoever.
PlayStation 4 sold over 2.35 million consoles since the Japanese launch (February 22, 2014 – 2.356.098 consoles, to be exact) – after a weak start, Sony‘s console stood up and began to perform brilliantly. Last week, 32181 PS4s were sold, making it the top selling console.
These are the top 20 best selling games in Japan.
- Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain – 425,971
- Knack – 400,888
- Dragon Quest Heroes – 327,019
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 – 310,238
- Bloodborne – 209,985
- Fallout 4 – 206,712
- Grand Theft Auto 5 – 196,795
- Star Wars: Battlefront – 187,434
- Dragon Quest Builders – 170,168
- Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes – 155,598
- The Witcher 3 – 149,337
- Yakuza 0 – 146,510
- Final Fantasy Type-0 HD – 140,048
- Yakuza Ishin! – 134,010
- Yakuza Kiwami – 131,205
- Destiny – 125,900
- Battlefield 4 – 113,928
- Battlefield Hardline – 113,061
- Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare – 102,716
- Watch Dogs – 99,323
Knack is very high up in the charts; it’s because the bundled games were also counted and upon the launch of the PS4, Knack was the game included in the boxes in February 2014. Yakuza games are also highly ranked, but the same cannot be said of Destiny. (Perhaps this is also a reason Activision had to fire some people!)
