More than 20 years ago Mortal Kombat was the first brutal hardcore fighting game with cool special moves and ruthless executions. In the ‘90s everybody was familiar with that title – including angry parents and teachers too.

In 2011, Netherrealm Studios rebooted the grandfather of all fighting games. Simply called Mortal Kombat again, it was the ninth episode and it became an instant classic. Well, the new episode of the franchise will be even nastier than the previous one. Even if you aren’t MK fan, you will become one since Mortal Kombat X is gorier than ever.

Fight!

After the character selection screen, we can decide which kind of fighting style we will use. Every fighters possess 3 combat styles (CS).  In all three CS the base movements are the same, but the special attacks are different.

Let’s take example of the ninja who returned from Hell: Scorpion. He has got Ninjutsu, Hellfire and Inferno styles. If you prefer sword attacks and longer combos, Ninjutsu is your best choice. Those who wants to summon demonic minions from Hell, they will opt for Inferno. My favourite is the Hellfire mode. The base special movements supplement with fire attacks. Nasty!

Brutality!

Graphics are obviously better looking than those of the last Mortal Kombat game. The characters, the movements and the background are a lot more detailed. The fights themselves are fast and brutal and blood is splattering from every punches and special attacks. When you have thought that a Mortal Kombat cannot be more brutal, Netherrealm Studios simply raise the bar.

If you have played the previous episode, some combos and special attacks will be familiar, however thanks to the new combat system, we have to learn the rest of the combos again.  Animation of X-Ray attacks are also really excessive. The bone-crushing and combo chains makes their return from Mortal Kombat.

Fatality!

The background is always animated, and we can also use it during the fights. You can swing over a tree, hang over your rival, and sometimes you can even grab a little guy, and throw him in to the battle. Health bar looks realistic this time – a bit like in Injustice: Gods Among Us. During fatalities characters drinks blood, cut faces, crush skulls.

To sum it up the new Mortal Kombat X is revoltingly beautiful – as it should be.

Fortunately the Story and Ladder mode are also promised. I hope that the Challenge tower will make its return to MKX, or at least something similar will be present to make us very happy.

If we can believe the developers the release date is the second half of 2015.
