In the first developer diary, we finally see in-engine footage instead of CGI cutscenes!
In the video, we can take a tour around Georgetown, one of many neighboring cities, towns of Washington D.C., where the game is located. Sure, the scene is clear now (there are no walkers), but seeing how the environment’s introduction was the main point of the trailer, we can understand Overkill’s (Payday!) decision.
„Contrast is really important. Creating a place that feels safe until a walker appears around the corner — I think that’s what makes Kirkman’s [creation] interesting. I always ask the question “Why?” Why did the pool of blood happen there, or why did somebody barricade their windows? Then you can give everything meaning, and if you give everything meaning, you get the sense of a lived-in world,” Jacob Claussen, Overkill’s environmental artist, says.
„We had to do a lot of research on how society and environments break down if nobody takes care of them. If nobody cuts the trees, nobody cuts the lawn, and nobody picks up the trash on the street. Where do things start to rust, or mold start to build up?” – Jonatan Lönnqvist, Overkill’s lead environmental artist, adds.
The question and the concept are good – The Walking Dead is supposed to launch this year on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
