The new consoles will need 7.4 TFLOP to move the 4K.
Microsoft and Sony are still trying to make the 4K game in consoles a reality . So far, it seems that Microsoft has been the most successful with its Xbox One X , but not all games come to be displayed with a native 4K resolution. However, Xbox One X has a graphical performance of 6 TFLOP and, according to recent statements by Timothy Lottes, of AMD, to reach 4K at 30 fps with a minimum image quality of the PS4 level, the future PS5 and Xbox Scarlett would need 7.4 TFLOP . This is what the AMD engineer said in an interview with Edge magazine.
Of the current, both PS4 Pro and Xbox One X are sold as 4K consoles, and it is true in terms of the resolution to which the content is issued, but not in terms of the rendering of the games. The Sony usually pull the checkerboard technique to scale the image to 4K, while the Microsoft, although it has more power, is forced to render some games at a lower resolution of 4K and use dynamic resolution for many of them . With 4.2 TFLOP and 6 TFLOP, respectively, the current “4K consoles” fall short to reach the bin 4K 30 fps, so the next generation will have to do their homework if they want to be up to the task.
On the other hand, and remembering what Phil Spencer said about the FPS , we would like the objective to exceed 30 fps and even 60 fps . Depending on the game, it may be more or less useful, but we believe that the interactive experience can be whole if we start to work more on visual fluency than on definition alone.
