Funcom Goes To The Dune: They Start Work On A Well-Known Franchise!

After Conan: Exiles, Age of Conan, or The Secret World, the Norway-based company Funcom gets to work on another old, but well-known franchise!

Funcom announced that the team started working on a game based on Frank Herbert’s novel, Dune. Dune has received several video games in the past: 1992 (Cryo/Virgin; as well as Dune II – Westwood/Virgin on SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis), 1998 (Dune 2000 – Intelligent Games/Westwood/Virgin); 2001 (Emperor: Battle for Dune – Intelligent/Westwood/Electronic Arts; as well as Frank Herbert’s Dune – Cryo/DreamCatcher Interactive). It’s a veteran franchise without a doubt.

If we don’t include 2015’s Dune Wars mod for Civilization IV, it’s been eighteen years since Dune got a new game! „Funcom has entered into an exclusive partnership with Legendary Studios to develop games based on the works of Frank Herbert’s DUNE, one of the world’s best-known science fiction universes with multiple adaptations into movies, games and other media. This is a six-year partnership to release at least three titles on the PC/Console platforms, with one of the games planned to be in the “Open World Multiplayer” genre that will enter into pre-production in Funcom’s Oslo studio during 2019,” the press release says.

Seeing the „pre-production” term, it seems that the first Funcom Dune game is going to be a next-gen console title! That’s great news for the fans of Dune, isn’t it?

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
