The franchise, which is currently being developed by 343 Industries (formerly Bungie), is catching up on PC.
Microsoft and 343 Industries announced that Halo: Master Chief Collection, which launched in November 2014 on Xbox One, initially containing Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST’s campaign, and Halo 4, is heading to the PC. It’s not just the Windows Store that will get it, because – as a massive surprise – Steam will also offer the collection!
The twist here is that the games will arrive on the PC over time. The first title will be a new addition, namely Halo: Reach. On Xbox One, it will be split in half – the multiplayer portion (Forge, Theater, for example) will be a free update, but the campaign and the Firefight mode will be paid add-on. On PC, the other games will arrive in chronological order, but we don’t know any release dates yet. You’ll need an Xbox Live account even for the Steam version, though!
343 Industries got a few pizzas as a reward by a few fans. The whole ordeal started out on Reddit, with a comment: „I will buy the first 343 Industries employee that comments on this pizza if Halo: Master Chief Collection for PC gets announced during the special announcement this month.” Brian Jarrard, the community manager of 343I, has responded by saying „what kind of pizza are we talking about?”, which he followed up by a pizza emoji tweet. He didn’t know what he started…
„The Halo community is awesome. We’re excited, too! Please, don’t send any more pizzas to 343 Industries. The building receptionist isn’t here so it’s getting logistically challenging and we really don’t want to see food to go waste,” Jarrard wrote later. Before it, he got surprised that the dev team actually received pizzas! Another tweet shows more pizzas, and one more tweet asks to not send anymore (and also pointing out that a pineapple-jalapeno pizza might be somewhat trolling).
So, Master Chief is taking an official turn towards PC – Halo 3 came out in 2007 (and, with a small delay compared to the Xbox version, Halo 2’s PC port as well…), and since then, the PC didn’t get much love. It’s a respectable twist from Microsoft – Halo: Infinite, the rumoured next-gen launch title, will come to PC as well by default!
