In the United States, Nintendo Switch had an incredible week.
Nintendo announced that on the week of November 24-30, the Switch, as well as the September-launched Nintendo Switch Lite sold more than a total of 830 thousand (!) units in the US, which is a weekly performance that the Switch never had before, not even on its launch week in March 2017. The big N’s success was due to the Switch Lite, as well as the Black Friday offers – one of them offered a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe digital download code in a Switch bundle. During Cyber Monday, the Switch also has broken its records.
„Holiday shoppers see the value of Nintendo Switch, which offers a vast library of games for every type of player. Whether shopping for the ideal gift or picking one up for yourself, the Nintendo Switch family of systems provides options that fit every playstyle,” Nintendo of America senior vice president of sales and marketing Nick Chavez in a press release.
Nintendo has also announced several updated Switch game lifetime sales numbers for the Americas:
- Pokemon Sword / Pokemon Shield – three million units (note: the games came out on November 15, making it even more impressive)
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 8.5 million units
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – eight million units
- Super Mario Odyssey – 6.5 million units
- New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe – 1.5 million units
Total sales of Switch hardware in the Americas (including North, Central, and South America) have surpassed 17.5 million units.
Seeing these results, the Nintendo Switch has possibly won November in the United States (we’ll see shortly when the NPD Group releases its analysis), but the currently PlayStation 4-exclusive Death Stranding could turn things upside down. We’re going to find out the truth in a couple of weeks.
