Alien: Isolation’s Nintendo Switch Port Is Fascinating! [VIDEO]

DigitalFoundry‘s analysis confirmed that Feral Interactive, who previously ported Alien: Isolation already to Linux and Mac (they probably love this game), has done a stellar job with the Switch port!

According to DF, 2014’s Alien: Isolation (which captures the tone and the ambience of the films perfectly – it’s easily recommended even today to play!) has a Nintendo Switch port that is better than the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One version. Creative Assembly, who mostly work on Total War games, had its creation ported decently by Feral: we see a dynamic resolution (in docked mode, it goes between 1080p, 1026p, 900p, 882p, or even 756p), as well as contrast adaptive sharpening and TAA (temporal anti-aliasing, an algorithm that provides a sharper image). The dynamic resolution works well, as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions are fixed to run on 1080p, but the Switch version looks better in motion!

In portable mode, it runs on 720p most of the time, but it can drop to a minimum of 504p. In return, the ambient occlusion is missing, the motion blur is also gone, and the geometry tends to kick in closer to us than on PS4 and X1 (and the game could have some minor hiccups not seen even in the PlayStation 3 version). At least the audio is not dumbed down to stereo! The frame rate seems to drop under 30 FPS here and there, but it runs stable. (However, the camera drops fluidity when the next areas of the level are loading.)

So we see yet another decent Switch port after Doom and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Good job! Too bad this game is not getting a proper sequel on consoles and PC (there are a Five Nights At Freddy’s clone on mobile…).
