Capcom shared sales data about the two newest Resident Evil games.

The Japanese company announced that five days after the April 3 launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (Steam), Resident Evil 3 Remake (plus, as a bonus, Resident Evil Resistance) has hit two million shipments and digital sales. The digital sales (Microsoft Store, Xbox Store, Steam…) takes nearly fifty per cent of this ratio, which, according to Capcom, is thanks to „promoting Capcom’s digital sales strategy.”

By said digital strategy, they mean the release of Resident Evil 3 Remake‘s Raccoon City Demo, as well as an open beta for Resident Evil Resistance before its launch. Capcom says that they „generated attention and strong reception from fans.” (And it could have been even better if they did not use the Denuvo DRM in PC, which has been confirmed to cause a performance hit in games that thus „call home” on PCs that aren’t necessarily new.)

Capcom also announced how Resident Evil 2 Remake, which launched in January 2019, performs. Its total shipments and digital sales have surpassed 6.5 million units. The last time we heard such data from this game was in February. By December 31, 2019, the game hit 5.8 million, which means the figure was increased by 700K units in the previous quarter, and that is respectable performance.

Resident Evil 3 Remake had M-Two work on it, and rumours say that Resident Evil 4 is also going to get a remake with them at the helm. With it, Capcom would make Resident Evil 4 available on even more platforms (it’s been available on virtually everything since its GameCube launch in 2005). At this rate, Leon and Ashley should get a washing machine, a toaster, and a micro port.
