Infinity Ward‘s Taylor Kurosaki has revealed a few details about the free-to-play Call of Duty battle royale that quickly gained traction.

Kurosaki was interestingly interviewed by a French publication, namely GamerGen. „I know that our plan is [Call of Duty:] Warzone is going to be around for quite some time, so as soon as those new systems are out and available I’m sure we’ll support them,” he said. It means the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X will also receive the title. He said „I’m sure,” but it’s Activision Blizzard – it’s guaranteed to be confirmed eventually. (And since 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare also builds on the same technology – same Battle Pass, weapons, items, gear… -, it might also receive a PS5/XSX version…)

Amos Hodge, Raven Software’s creative director (this team also worked on the game), added that Call of Duty: Warzone will get the Duos mode shortly, but it currently has bugs, and they don’t want to release it in such a half-baked format yet. They want to ensure the timing is right and that players are interested in playing new content while building on already available content. (And, based on player feedback, they have removed the Trios mode several times in the past. Also, if you own Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, too, you might have noticed that the two games in total require at least 180 GB on PC, and this figure is even higher on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One…)

Kurosaki also teased the future of this game: „We’re in kind of uncharted territories here. Call of Duty has been on a very regular cadence for many many years, and Warzone has made us rethink exactly how best to release new content and how to integrate it. Call of Duty is a genre in itself, there are different branches in the Call of Duty tree, but they’re all connected in some ways. Warzone will be the through-line that connects all of the different various sub-franchises of Call of Duty. It’s going to be cool to see how the different sub-franchises sort of come in and out of focus, but Warzone will be the one constant,” Kurosaki said.

What he means is that Call of Dury: Warzone will tie the other sub-franchises (Modern Warfare, Black Ops…) together and that it might get updates related to the 2020 CoD title, which has been rumoured to be set in Vietnam, developed by Treyarch after Sledgehammer (2014 – Advanced Warfare, 2017 – WWII) and Raven couldn’t work together. The game is likely going to be revealed in less than a month, and it will probably be a cross-gen title (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One).
