The maker of Sea of Thieves, Rare is confident that Everwild will be something unique and special, with an immersive world.
With a special Xbox Series X event on the way this week, it’s normal for both the press and fans to go over the big games Microsoft studios are up to while waiting for news. One is Everwild of Rare. The British studio has not stopped improving a Sea of Thieves that is now enjoying unprecedented success , but what about its new IP? How does its development evolve and when can we see it in action?
Speaking to Polygon, President Craig Duncan explains, “Part of the reason we haven’t talked about Everwild much is because we’re still talking about [the meaning of its world]. We’re still experimenting with [the mechanics].” Undoubtedly this means that the game goes through a relatively early phase, but with the same transparency it seems that its setting is the main protagonist, and in that sense, Everwild will be “very special”.
“We learned a lot from Sea of Thieves,” says the executive. “We love the idea of Sea of Thieves and that players create stories together. I think with Everwild, Louise [O’Connor] and her management team are excited to give players a world where they can just get lost” and consequently Ideas like “what it means to enrich a world” or “what it means to be in communion with nature ” still require some improvement. Duncan insists that his team is dedicated to making a game that feels unique and special, so it’s probably worth the wait.
Everwild was announced with a spectacular trailer at the end of 2019 that made us long for its lush forests and the impossible fauna and the magical animals that populate them.
We don’t know yet when we’ll see anything of the game again, but if we had to guess, we’d say on Thursday during the Xbox Series X event.
Anyone interested in the game should by no means miss the event, and be sure to read our Preview of Everwild’s special world!
