IO Interactive is not messing around with VR support – don’t underestimate the developers from Denmark.
In a dev diary, the team talks about how Hitman III will support the PlayStation VR (as at the moment, it is the only virtual reality headset that is confirmed to support the final instalment of the trilogy). However, it’s not going to be a simple, easy game mode that allows you to use the headset that launched nearly for years ago. Instead, you can use the PlayStation VR for the entire game, including the locations from the previous two Hitman games! You can already see footage of it in the video below – the studio (which will self-publish it) is going all-in, it seems.
„Hitman III is the dramatic conclusion to the World of Assassination trilogy, taking players around the world on a globetrotting adventure to sprawling sandbox locations, with Agent 47 returning for the most important contracts of his career. Supported by his Agency handler, Diana Burnwood, Agent 47 joins forces with his long-lost friend Lucas Grey. Their ultimate mission is to eliminate the partners of Providence, but they are forced to adapt as their hunt intensifies. When the dust settles, 47 and the world he inhabits will never be the same again.
[…] „Hitman III has a much darker tone than the previous games in the trilogy. On top of the core Hitman experience, we are mixing in some surprise elements, an evocative atmosphere and a very real sense of closure,” said Hitman III director Mattias Engstrom in a press release. „I am immensely proud and excited to announce Hitman III. This game will be self-published by IO Interactive and will come directly from us to our passionate fanbase. The entire IO Interactive team is ready and determined to deliver a pinnacle Hitman experience,” IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak added,” we wrote in June.
Hitman III launches in January on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia. It means the bald agent will not be a launch title for either next-gen consoles, but then again, Master Chief won’t be at the start of the new Xbox either!
