DOOM Can Run On Almost Everything! [VIDEO]

We never expected such a device… and yet, here we are, it’s close to being capable of running id Software‘s classic.

Foone Turing can be considered a talented hardware engineer and software programmer who tends to ask a simple question: can it run DOOM? In the two tweets below, you can find yourself being amazed by his incredible work.

Yes, that is a pregnancy tester machine, where he managed to recreate the Rick Roll. (In case you forgot, it’s a meme that was mainly around during 2008-2010, and on one April Fools day, YouTube made all its front page videos link to the song behind it. It was Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up.) „It can’t yet run Doom. That’s going to be way tricky, even cheating and having a modern desktop computer connected to it… but I CAN playback a Doom video on it, which is kinda close? (Using a different dithering method here so that you can see anything: Doom is dark)”, he wrote. The resolution is 128×32…

„The existing CPU can’t be reprogrammed and the existing LCD can only show 4 things, so I had to replace both to make any changes. And the current version doesn’t even fit into the shell! (although I’m certain it will when complete),” he added. Foone also stated that once the design is complete, there will be a how-to guide so that others can make their video pregnancy test.

At this rate, we can say that we did not expect such a device to go into DOOM. Sure, we have seen an oscilloscope run an FPS, but a pregnancy tester is just ridiculous at this point. However, we are not that far from reality if we ask when DOOM will run on a toaster, as human creativity seems to know no boundaries (and we got the obligatory chorus out of the way with that, too).
