Meanwhile, Microsoft is reportedly planning more acquisitions, and Electronic Arts has technically lost its exclusivity to use the Star Wars license.
„A new Indiana Jones game is in development at MachineGames and will be executive produced by Todd Howard, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. It’ll be some time before Bethesda has more to reveal. This deal was made before the Xbox acquisition. A few random thoughts: open positions suggested a new Wolfenstein is in development at MachineGames as well and further than Indiana Jones. This is one of the „case-by-case” multiplatform games, maybe Game Pass. [It’s] very early in dev, getting the news out before the acquisition,” Klobrille, a reliable Xbox insider, wrote on Twitter. So Lucasfilm Games’ revival quickly brought out some announcements – we mentioned another one in the news earlier today. The next Wolfenstein game is Wolfenstein III.
He’s not alone in thinking that this Indiana Jones game will be multiplatform. Here’s what Jez Corden of Windows Central had to say: „Despite the Xbox acquisition, I think Indiana Jones could be multiplatform due to LucasFilm’s involvement/licensed IP. But, the fact PlayStation hasn’t retweeted it yet could also be a hint to the contrary. For those wondering about Xbox/PC exclusivity, we’ll have to wait and see.”
Douglas Reilly, Lucasfilm Games’ vice president, revealed in an interview that Electronic Arts has practically lost the Star Wars license’s exclusive usage: „Continuing the relationship that resulted in the reinvigorated Battlefront series, the critically-acclaimed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and multiplayer hit Star Wars: Squadrons, Electronic Arts will too play a big role in the future of Star Wars gaming. “We’re proud of the games we have created with Electronic Arts,” Reilly says. “We will continue working with them and our relationship has never been stronger. While we may not have a lot of details to share at the moment, we’ve got several projects underway with the talented teams at EA,” the Star Wars page wrote.
And finally, Brad Sams, another reputable Microsoft insider, thinks that Microsoft is preparing for more acquisitions: „There’s a lot of money flowing around gaming companies right now, several getting multiple bids – not sure when or if any of these will close but gaming IP valuations are soaring.” We can already guess two studios: Asobo (Flight Simulator, A Plague Tale: Innocence), Techland (Dying Light, Dead Island’s earlier instalments) – the latter was already rumoured last year, but then, Techland denied these rumours. Take-Two Interactive is also showing interest in acquisitions. They tried to acquire Codemasters, but Electronic Arts has placed a bigger bid, causing Strauss Zelnick’s company to revoke its bid-offer…
The next few months will be exciting…
