It’s been fourteen years since the launch of the first game (and even then, GSC Game World made us wait for several years with a lot of delays!), but the Ukrainians celebrated it with the sequel.
The alternative version of Chernobyl’s Exclusion Zone has sucked us in nearly one and a half decades ago, causing countless memorable moments. However, multiple console generations have passed since, and GSC Game World’s proprietary engine (X-Ray) also became outdated, as we are waiting for the first true sequel to the game. Zakhar Bocharov, the PR manager of the studio, talked about the game in the video below (showcasing… teeth tech?).
„The Zone is a dangerous place, so it’s filled with different factions. The Freedom and the Duty are two iconic opposing forces. The first ones see the Zone as a free, ever-growing state, while the second ones would eagerly sacrifice their lives to prevent its spreading. These ideologies will never meet the agreement. As you may have guessed, you will see them in the sequel. The time has passed, and new forces emerge in the Zone. You can expect to see more factions in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is a shooter game, and you can’t imagine it without the guns, right? The arsenal will include more than 30 different weapons. Of course, there will be lots of modifications for each gun,” Bocharov said in the video, adding that there will be a gameplay demo coming later this year.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, which will use Unreal Engine 4, has no release date yet announced (probably better to do it this way, unlike with the first game), and going by that comment, we suspect a 2022 release at the earliest on Xbox Series and PC. The game will also be part of Xbox Game Pass.
