IO Interactive reiterated that their game isn’t going to be some lazy film-to-game adaptation featuring James Bond‘s character; they have bigger ideas than that.

Hakan Abrak, the CEO of IO Interactive, told IGN  that crafting a brand new story was quite important for the team, as they don’t like to work „mechanically,” if that makes sense.

„It’s not just because it’s a big IP, or it’s a licensed game, and commercially this is interesting… It means nothing to us. We’ve taken a lot of non-commercial risks before. So, for us, it’s about… we need to feel it, deep inside. The passion needs to be there, so it was very important for us that it wasn’t a movie adaptation. So, it wasn’t a game about… a specific movie, where the story has already been told,” Abrak said.

EON, the owners of James Bond, is 100% behind IO Interactive, so their suggestion of keeping the game entirely separate from the movie series is going to happen. „So, we’re not only inspired by one movie, or games and whatnot. We’re inspired by the whole thing, and just sucking things into us to make an original Bond, an original story, but that is true and recognizable in the values there is in Bond. I’m looking forward to creating a new community that the gamers can call their own,” Abrak added.

Project 007 doesn’t have an official name yet, so we’ll call it by its codename for now. It’s early in development, so don’t expect it to launch this year or even the next one. It’s possibly going to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, and to make this game (featuring a young James Bond) happen, IO wants to double its workforce.

His name is Bond. James Bond. Or at least it will be.
