Resident Evil 8 (this is what Village is, let’s face it) has received a ton of previews overnight, and Capcom might be risking revealing way too much of the game…
Let’s start with the analysis of the demo made for the PlayStation platforms. According to ElAnalistaDeBits, „Resident Evil: Village on PlayStation 5 can enable or disable Ray Tracing mode. This change affects global lighting. The framerate with RT on is somewhat more unstable. [The] PlayStation 4 Pro has two display modes. We can choose between 4K Checkerboard and an average of 40 FPS or 1080p/60 FPS.
[The] shadows are the same in all versions. Anisotropic filtering is slightly higher on PlayStation 5. [The] loading times are incredibly fast on PS5. The demo starts 2 seconds, while on PlayStation 4, it is more than 30 seconds. [The] PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 Pro (in 4K mode) use checkerboard (or a similar technique), although the average resolution is higher on PS5,” the analysis says. See the first video below.
VG Tech’s frame rate analysis confirms that the demo is quite close to what Capcom has promised previously (we mentioned the frame rate and resolution targets when they confirmed the Mercenaries mode). The PlayStation 4 Pro has noticeable ghosting, resulting in washed-out visuals. On a base PlayStation 4, the resolution is about 1600×900. We’ll continue after these two videos.
The third video has HDR footage, showcasing the demo. Eurogamer’s video features the enemies (the werewolf-like Lycans, the hammer-wielding Heisenberg, and Lady Dimitrescu and her blood-hungry daughters). Then, on the PlayStation Blog, we can also read a few thoughts. The village is packed with narrow passages and alleyways, with several buildings to explore; however, the residents might attack us in the process. It’s not an open world, but it allows us to get off the main path here and there.
We will get into the castle after our first visit to the village. Heisenberg will capture us, and there, Lady Dimitrescu will effectively be the game’s equivalent of Resident Evil 2 Remake’s Mr X. IGN added that eventually, we will find something that the Dimitrescu family is weak to. We will have mini-boss fights with the daughters, while the cellar and the rooftop of the castle will feature more, weaker enemies.
Resident Evil: Village will launch on May 7 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC (Steam), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia.
