Bobby Kotick, who has halved his pay (and still earn a ton) doesn’t want to skip just one year with his annual cash cow IP, Call of Duty…
Let’s start at the beginning. Toys For Bob, the devs behind the decent Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time and Spyro Reignited Trilogy, announced on Twitter that it now helps Raven Software in the development of Call of Duty: Warzone. One former employee has mentioned that there were some layoffs at the studio that deserves more than to just work on Call of Duty. (It was founded in 1989, and it created the Star Control IP before developing Skylanders.)
However, Activision Blizzard didn’t leave it at that, as the company sent a statement to WCCFTech, which said the following: „Reports of layoffs at Toys For Bob are incorrect. There has not been a reduction in personnel recently at the studio. The development team is operating fully and has several full-time job openings at this time. The studio is excited to continue supporting Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, and more recently provide additional development support to Call of Duty: Warzone.”
However, it doesn’t end here. VGC’s Andy Robinson tweeted: „I was recently told that virtually every studio at Activision is now working on Call of Duty.” That means Activision Shanghai, Beenox, Demonware, High Moon Studios, Infinity Ward, Raven Software, Sledgehammer Games, Treyarch, and now Toys For Bob are all involved with developing Call of Duty. This rumour falls in line with what we discussed recently: allegedly, Call of Duty: WWII Vanguard, this year’s alleged title, has been a „disaster” so far, and now, Activision Blizzard seems to put everyone under the Activision banner to work on it.
This year’s Call of Duty hasn’t been announced yet, but it should happen shortly. Still, if even Assassin’s Creed at Ubisoft managed to get away from an annual release (and way before the coronavirus global pandemic), Activision Blizzard should think about this…
