Wow, Ubisoft is modifying a formula that has been present for more than one and a half decades!
In Far Cry games, let’s be frank, we saw and experienced everything, including cutscenes (such as the definition of insanity with Vaas Montenegro in Far Cry 3), in a first-person perspective. However, Far Cry 6 will change this, but it won’t result in outright third-person gameplay (which, in this case, would be the same formula seen in Assassin’s Creed titles… or even the Watch Dogs series).
Navid Khavari, Ubisoft’s narrative director, told Ubisoft the following: „In cinematics, [third-person] is something the team tried early on, and it felt surprisingly seamless. It instantly felt like there was more of a connection to Dani’s journey in the world, more of a connection to this epic story in Yara.” Yara being the fictional island based on Cuba, and Dani being the protagonist, respectively.
Far Cry 5 had some character customization, and yet, we never got to see the results of our work in the cutscenes. However, we will get an opportunity in Far Cry 6, and not just in cutscenes, but also in the guerrilla camps: „In Guerrilla Camps, this is also an opportunity for players to be able to see their fully customized character, everything from their backpack to their clothes.” So we can go FPP or TPP in there. But only there! The gameplay will remain in first-person outside the camps.
Far Cry 6, which will not have a map editor (so no Arcade Mode, even though Far Cry 5 has been used to recreate GoldenEye 007 in it, as we mentioned before!), will launch on October 7 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC (Epic Games Store, Uplay), PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna.
