Dragon Quest 12 is a Truly Ambitious JRPG According to Square Head Honcho [VIDEO]

Dragon Quest 12 is such an ambitious JRPG that it will define the future of the series for the next 10 or 20 years. Square Enix announced just a few weeks ago the return of this legendary series with The Flames of Fate.

Just a few weeks after the announcement of the new Dragon Quest 12, we hardly have any news about this long-awaited JRPG from Square Enix but it does seem clear that it will be a tremendously ambitious video game, to the point of defining the future of this mythical saga of role-playing adventures during the next 10 or 20 years.

It has been the head of Square Enix who has shared this opinion with the Japanese magazine Famitsu. “Dragon Quest XII is being developed with the next 10 to 20 years of the Dragon Quest series in mind,” says Yosuke Matsuda. “There are parts that will be true to the traditional image of Dragon Quest,” he continues, “but the news is also necessary.”

“After all,” he concludes, “as a brand, we always have to innovate.” What news could Matsuda be talking about? He has not gone into details but when Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate was presented it was already confirmed that the story of this new JRPG would be darker and more adult than in previous episodes of the saga and, more importantly, there was an intention to review by complete combat system.

Without images or videos of the Dragon Quest 12 itself, beyond the announcement trailer that was limited to showing the logo, another of the details already confirmed is that Dragon Quest XII is being developed with Unreal Engine 5.
