Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy: Introducing Lady Hellbender [VIDEO]

Is it a ruthless hunter in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, or something completely different? Maybe a new video from Eidos Montreal’s next game will answer that question.

Square Enix‘ and Eidos Montreal‘s new gameplay cinematic provides the following details: “[The cinematic picks] up the story with Star-Lord and the Guardians as they commence their plan to negotiate with Lady Hellbender: leader of the Hellraisers, queen of Seknarf Nine and notorious monster collector.

With the decision left to the player on which “rare monster” to sell, AKA Groot or Rocket, this memorable moment ignites a chain of events that sees our band of misfits off on their wild ride across the cosmos, caught in a struggle for the fate of the universe,” Square Enix wrote. In other words, the game will start small, but the events will snowball quickly.

“Lady Hellbender is a fan-favourite character from Marvel’s recent comic lore, and we were keen to ensure her place in our Guardians universe reflects the complex personality, depth, and nature fans expect to see. And with humour instilled in every aspect of our game, this allowed us to flip expectations with the story and introduce an unexpected dynamic between her and a certain Destroyer,” Eidos Montreal cinematics and animation director Darryl Purdy added.

Purdy also said that the game, which was strictly announced as a single-player title, will offer nearly six hours of interactive cinematics. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy will launch on October 26 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. There will be a Nintendo Switch version, but it will run from the cloud (and you can find it in the Nintendo eShop).

There will be no online mode, microtransactions and DLC. Perhaps this is Square Enix trying to prevent another Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy title from being largely ignored by them (Marvel’s Avengers, which nearly launched a year ago, still hasn’t received its PlayStation-exclusive Spider-Man character yet…).
