The rumours were true about Sony’s broadcasts, but THQ Nordic (=Embracer Group) also prepares a stream.
Let’s start with the one that is closer to us. PlayStation Showcase 2021 will provide “a look into the future of PlayStation 5,” including updates from PlayStation Studios and “some of the industry’s most imaginative developers.” It will start on September 9 at 1 PM Pacific / 4 PM Eastern. You can look for it on the PlayStation.com website, YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook.
According to the PlayStation Blog, the broadcast will be forty minutes long, and it will not have any information about the PlayStation VR 2. The broadcast will be followed by a post-show, possibly giving us a deep dive into some of the announcements Sony Interactive Entertainment will have made.
Also, THQ Nordic will celebrate its tenth anniversary. It’s somewhat complicated, so let’s explain it. Nordic Games formed its publishing branch in Vienna ten years ago. They then picked up the rights to the THQ brand in 2014, renaming both this publishing arm (THQ Nordic GmbH) and the parent company (THQ Nordic AB) in 2016. Seeing how this naming convention is anything but reasonable, in September 2019, the parent company rebranded itself to Embracer Group…
The 10th-anniversary showcase will be held on September 17 at noon Pacific / 3 PM Eastern, hosted by Geoff Keighley. The six new game announcements “will take you on a journey through time and space.” They include “the return of legendary franchises, including some for which fans have been waiting decades to get their hands on a new instalment,” plus “sequels to beloved games.” (Spongebob?) They will also have gameplay and new details for ELEX II (an RPG), and Expeditions: Rome (turn-based RPG). A pre-show will feature a look at upcoming titles from HandyGames, a THQ Nordic owned German company. You can watch the broadcast on YouTube, Twitch, and Steam.
So we will have a lot to see. We’re curious about THQ Nordic.
