Going by the studio’s job listings, the team’s next game might go through significant changes compared to Horizon Forbidden West.
Guerrilla Games, formerly known for the Killzone series, and now famous for the Horizon games (and one of their former leaders, Hermen Hulst, is now helming PlayStation Studios), is thinking about the future. After Aloy’s second adventure (which seems to resemble Death Stranding, as it also had a journey to the West, featuring Sam “Porter” Bridges…), the studio could be preparing for the next game, as they will have more workforce and time for it.
The ResetEra forums found a job offer for a senior social systems designer. Already the name could be ringing the bell. Still, when we look deeper into the description of this position within Guerrilla Games, we get some answers, too: “Guerrilla Games is looking for an experienced Senior Social Systems Designer with a passion for player communities and social features.
Reporting to the Lead Game Designer, you will work within a core team of multiple designers focused on social systems and player engagements and take charge to ensure quality feature delivery. Leveraging your background and experience in Systems Design, you will ideate, create and share innovative features to build, engage, and nurture player interactions and relationships,” the job description reads.
It doesn’t automatically mean that Guerrilla Games’ next title could indeed be an open-world game (although the two Horizon games fit this role) with cooperative elements (which would be something new). The studio might follow what Sucker Punch did. After releasing Ghost of Tsushima last summer on PlayStation 4 (with the Director’s Cut, including the Iki Island expansion, also available on PlayStation 5 since August), they made a multiplayer game mode as a free update…
The other option is that Guerrilla Games is doing a multiplayer SPIN-OFF…
