The Cause Of The Diablo 2 Server Crash Has Been Revealed

Constant server crashes have been ruining the Diablo 2 experience, and now we know what caused it.

Diablo 2: Resurrected is the game dreamed of by every franchise fan, especially those who invested a good number of hours in the second instalment. However, and although its recent launch has garnered good reviews from the community, the latest Blizzard title has regular server crashes. The developer is trying to solve the situation and has already detected that part of the problems come from its code, the same as the original Diablo 2.

With a somewhat negative online experience and therefore many complaints towards server crashes, Blizzard has released a statement on the Diablo 2: Resurrected forums to put players in the situation. In this sense, the study explains that they have been overwhelmed by the user traffic that the game has had since its launch, something that has been generating various problems that they are facing at this time.

However, Blizzard has already managed to put its finger on one of the causes of such a situation: the game code. Since, as they explain in their post, “to stay loyal to the original title, we kept a lot of legacy code. However, one service, in particular, is having a hard time catching up with the behaviour of modern gamers.”

Of course, Blizzard already explained that Diablo 2: Resurrected development was as tricky as making a new instalment since it forced to consider recent trends on the part of the users. In this sense, and to alleviate a bit of the dilemma around server crashes, the studio has begun to prevent the creation of characters from reaching a certain number of games. It has implemented a queuing system to balance the input of the players.

Therefore, the developer has created a remastering of Diablo 2, updating a part of its original code, which has left some feelings of nostalgia and, at the same time, problems with its servers.
