Halo fans have been longing to see who’s behind the Master Chief helmet, but it looks like they’ll have to wait…
We’re all familiar with Master Chief, the protagonist of the Halo games, having experienced epic moments and brave deeds in dozens of games. But this character still holds a big secret: his face. We’ve never seen his iconic ‘Spartan’ features before, although the first trailer for the Halo series is supposed to show them. But as far as video games go, it’s doubtful he’ll ever take off his helmet.
Game Informer learned this from a quick Q&A with Joseph Staten, the franchise’s creative director. Staten isn’t too keen on the idea of showing Master Chief’s face in the Halo games:
“I guess it all depends on what your goals are, but for the games, I think the anonymous hero is pretty important”.
So it seems that we will continue to control a hero with an unknown face, as this could create a better relationship between the protagonist and the player. On the other hand, in the same interview, we got some exciting details about the next Spartan adventure, with Staten confirming that Halo Infinite will feature the classic maps of the franchise and that new weapons will be added over time.
Although Halo Infinite is already in the final stages of development, it is rumoured that new content will continue to be added after its release. In this regard, Staten himself recently explained why one of the game’s most talked-about co-operative modes is being delayed. As for the Master Chief’s face, it’s not yet known if the series will make this move, as the teaser only showed the character’s distinctive armour.
