Call Of Duty: Vanguard Has Less Interest Than Previous Games, And Hundreds Of Gamers Explain Why

A survey conducted by GamesIndustry gives us an idea of the weak debut of Vanguard compared to other releases

That Call of Duty: Vanguard hasn’t been as strong as other years is a fact of life. Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: Vanguard is not enjoying the same success as previous releases, falling in sales and leaving a much smaller impact than Activision’s franchise usually does with its annual releases.

What are the reasons for this decline in popularity? A survey conducted by GamesIndustry sheds light on the matter. In collaboration with EGX and PAX, hundreds of regular Call of Duty players were surveyed and asked whether they still play the franchise and, if not, why they are no longer interested in it.

The data collected, from users in the UK and the US yields some very curious results. Out of 671 people interviewed, 284 confirmed that they had bought a Call of Duty title in the last five years, and of those, only 21% have bought Vanguard, for a total of 59.

Therefore, almost 80% of respondents have not bought Sledgehammer’s game and, among the reasons given, the most shared reason is that 55% say they are playing other games. The second most substantial reason is 34% who say they have played too many Call of Duty titles, while the third (24%) points to a lack of interest in titles with a WWII theme.

The rest of the answers given are certainly no less interesting. 20% say the reviews have put them off, 14% say they are happy playing Call of Duty: Warzone and 11% prefer to wait for other games that are still to be released. Therefore, it is clear that they were not convinced by the title’s approach, the media’s opinions, or the promotion.

Finally, the remaining 17% offer other minor reasons. In fact, they are perhaps the most curious of all, as those given points to the controversy with Activision Blizzard, which is to be expected, but underneath it are the price, the toxicity of the community, the poor single-player mode or even the large size of the download.

Let’s remember that, despite everything,  Vanguard offers a solid experience that doesn’t clash with the franchise’s offerings in previous years, but that doesn’t seem to be enough for an audience with more and more different offerings on the table. The problems it’s experiencing are minor, and the studio is addressing them, but Activision’s efforts are now focused on Caldera, the new Warzone map coming this December.
