Steelrising, published by Nacon and developed by Spiders, promises to be an insanely spectacular steampunk adventure set in Paris in 1789…
Steelrising’s premise is, shall we say, unconventional, as it takes players on a journey through the shaky ground of alternate history:
“Paris, 1789. The city is in the grip of terror. The Revolution has been suppressed with bloodshed by Louis XVI and his merciless mechanical army. It falls to Aegis, an engineering marvel, to take on the king’s ranks of automatons and change the course of history…”
Let’s just add that the makers of GreedFall are no strangers to presenting a believable and – above all – entertaining departure from actual events, and from what we know so far, Steelrising will be no different.
In the game’s latest trailer, shown at The Game Awards 2021, we get to see what Aegis, an automaton skilled in both dance and combat, can do and is introduced simply as “The Angel of Death” by the video’s narrator.
As for the gameplay, the developers are still tight-lipped about it, but a sneak peek on Steam reveals that, in addition to combat, the game will also feature a lot of exploration, the discovery of secrets and the completion of exciting missions. It is said that particular emphasis will be placed on a believable historical context for the plot, which is an interesting and worthy objective for a game that seems to be so far removed from reality.
Steelrising will arrive in June 2022 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S and X.
