He has not clarified what he will do at the start of 2022, but we know he will not leave Riot Games
Riot Games’ FPS Valorant is ending the year with some big news. The game’s director, Joe Ziegler, has announced that he will be leaving his position this week to work on an entirely new project that Riot Games is planning.
“It is with a heart full of gratitude and deep emotion that I break this news to you today,” Ziegler began his farewell letter on the official Valorant website. “After eight years of working at Valorant, I am leaving the position of game director to my good friend Andy Ho.”
Ziegler has worked on Valorant since the project’s inception within Riot Games, and together with his entire team, has built it into the multiplayer title we enjoy today. “It’s a team of passionate and dedicated developers who have worked tirelessly for all of you, with the respect and admiration you deserve,” said Ziegler, addressing the Valorant community.
As for Andy Ho, he has worked within Riot Games for about five years, and most of that time has been dedicated to Valorant. He also worked for over a year at Phoenix Labs, the studio responsible for the free-to-play Dauntless.
What will Ziegler be working on now? The only thing the former director clarified is that this is an entirely new project at Riot Games. While that doesn’t tell us much, we can rule out titles we already know about, such as the MMO inspired by the League of Legends universe, the fighting game in development, Project L, and even the mobile version of Valorant.
