We have yet another company alongside Valve and Phil Spencer to express their negative opinion of the NFT technology growing at an astonishing rate this year…

We’ve seen several instances of blockchain and NFT being so negatively received that the developer, publisher, or voice actor behind it tends to back out. We’ve written about these cases: Team17 (MetaWorms), GSC Game World (S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2), Troy Baker (VoiceVerse NFT), and even Electronic Arts seems to have backed down. But on the other side of the scale, more and more are jumping on the NFT bandwagon (Ubisoft Quartz: we recently discussed how the French publisher is forcing it on developers; Konami; Square Enix…).

But we can also add another “detractor” to our list: itch.io, founded by Leaf Corcoran in 2013, may not be familiar to everyone, so we’ll mention here that it’s an indie store dedicated to mostly DRM-free games, and on Twitter it’s been telling NFTs to go to hell: “A few have asked about our stance on NFTs: NFTs are a scam. If you think they are legitimately useful for anything other than exploiting creators, financial scams, and the destruction of the planet, we ask that you please reevaluate your life choices.

Also, f__k any company that says they support creators and endorses NFTs in any way. They only care about their profit and the opportunity for wealth above anyone else, especially given the now readily available discourse concerning the problems of NFTs. How can you be so dense?” the site wrote.

So, after Steam (they banned NFT games), don’t count on itch.io if you’re looking for this kind of stuff. On the other hand, Epic Games welcomes NFT/blockchain titles with open arms, while Fortnite can’t expect such an expansion. (What an unintelligible logic from Tim Sweeney…)
