Here’s The Graphical Evolution Of Gran Turismo In A Single Animation: An Amazing Polygon Count Increase!

Polyphony Digital is already well underway, with the release of Gran Turismo 7 scheduled for March 4.

We don’t need to see any more gameplay to know that Gran Turismo 7 promises to be a graphical marvel. Motoring enthusiasts can’t wait for the game’s release so they can press the accelerator hard and enjoy 4K racing and truly diverse car customisation features. But what kind of graphical evolution has the franchise undergone?

Gran Turismo cars started with 300 polygons and now have around 500,000 polygons

Polyphony Digital wanted to answer this question with a simple comparison. As you can see in the tweet below, there’s a massive difference between the cars in the first episode and the ones we’ll see in the seventh. And if we focus more on the technical side, the cars have gone from 300 polygons to around 500,000.

This increase has not only gone hand in hand with the technological progress of each generation but has also been aimed at maximising the level of detail in the gaming experience. After all, the new title will feature a level of customisation never before seen in the franchise, allowing you to experiment and improve the speed of your car.

Getting back to the technical side of things, Gran Turismo 7 has already detailed some of the features that will be available for PS4 and PS5. On the one hand, PS4 users will face a game split across two discs, while next-gen gamers can now control the size required to install the title. So we can prepare for Polyphony Digital’s next release, scheduled for March 4.
