MOVIE NEWS – We’ve known almost nothing about the latest Wonder Woman for quite some time now, which is starting to get a little worrysome. However, Gal Gadot has now given us an update on the film.
Wonder Woman is one of the cornerstones of the DCEU alongside Batman and Superman, so it’s no wonder that fans have high expectations for the films based on the Amazonian superhero’s story. Wonder Woman 1984, released in 2020, was not the most successful adaptation, so it was questionable for a while whether we could expect a third instalment or we should settle for the two films that had been made so far. Shortly afterwards, news came that there would be a third instalment, but since then the subject has been pretty much forgotten.
Now, however, Gal Gadot, who starred as Amazon in the first film, has some news for the fans, assuring us that the franchise has not been forgotten. Here’s what the actress, who plays Wonder Woman had to say to Forbes:
“We’re talking! We’re actually in the mix of working on the script and getting the third one made, so it’s all wheels are working and turning and I’m super, super excited for the fans to come and watch Wonder Woman 3 once it’s made.”
Obviously, this update is pretty vague about what we should expect in the first place, but the actress also revealed that she thinks it’s time for Wonder Woman (aka Diana Prince) to appear in the modern times.
“I wouldn’t go, like, to the ’60s or to the ’40s with Wonder Woman. I feel like the past has been handled well, and now it’s time to move on.”
No doubt fans of the films are used to the character’s time jumps, as Diana was first seen during World War I and she appeared in 1984 the nex time. It would indeed be interesting to see a version that would show the adventures of Diana and her partner Steve in the present day, especially if Wonder Woman 3 manages to make up for the mixed reception of the second film.
In any case, let’s hope that DC can find their direction for the cinematic Wonder Woman franchise and create a well-rounded DCEU-appropriate universe with the third installment. But it should also be mentioned that Gal Gadot is quite busy currently, as she recently released two films, Red Notice and Death on the Nile, while she is also working on Disney’s live-action Snow White and spy-thriller Heart of Stone.
Wonder Woman 3 is expected to be released in 2024, but we may see the character before that, as there is a possibility that Gal Gadot makes a cameo appearance in Shazam! The Fury of Gods later this year.
