Glen Schofield: The Callisto Protocol Will Be Bigger than Dead Space!

As he was behind both games, no one knows it better.

The Callisto Protocol will essentially be the spiritual sequel to Dead Space, as Glen Schofield was behind Isaac Clarke and is now trying to create a similar sci-fi survival horror in another world (which promises to be revolutionary again; only this time, it’s not being made by the defunct Visceral Games under Electronic Arts, but under Krafton with Striking Distance as the dev team).

Schofield was asked in an interview with IGN how similar The Callisto Protocol is to Dead Space? In response, Schofield said, “We were very conscious that the environments would look different, that was very important… You’re going to play the game, get in there, and think maybe Dead Space. Still, when you’re done, it’s a different story, different characters, different story, different universe, different way we tell the story, the combat is different… I can’t see people going, ‘Oh, this is Dead Space 4’.'”

Previously, we heard that The Callisto Protocol is set in the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, or PUBG, universe. That’s not the case anymore (maybe it’s for the best because we have a hard time connecting this survival horror to battle royale in our minds…). Schofield also talked about it: “When I got in there, they were like, ‘Hey, we’ve been working on this story and this lore and this timeline, and we think that you can put this game in the timeline’…I was like, ‘Yeah, why not?’ I mean, PUBG’s giant, like, will it help? And then, you know, we’re a year into it, and we’re like, ‘Well, the story, we just did what we wanted; characters, the universe, all that…’ And so, we were late to announce it because it happened a while ago, but we just didn’t want people getting confused, so we came out with the announcement that it’s no longer in there.”

The Callisto Protocol will launch on December 2 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
