PlayStation Plus In The Americas Hasn’t Relaunched Without A Few Bugs!

When the head of Tekken jokes about Tekken 2’s price tag 8the game is included in the redesigned PlayStation Plus), it’s a bit of a laughing matter, and knowing Sony, it might have been somewhat intentional.

So PlayStation Plus, with three subscription tiers, has now launched in the Americas. There were bugs in the Asian and Japanese regions (but these don’t include using the PAL region PS1 and PS2 games; instead, the NTSC editions were used, so subscribers get games running at 60 Hz instead of 50, and therefore, 60 FPS), although this time, they’re pretty different bugs.

Two Namco games (now Bandai Namco, but back then, they were the only Namco games…) have been given outrageous price tags on the PlayStation Store. One is Tekken 2, and the other is Mr Driller. Both are PS1 games and have a price tag of $9999. Let’s face it. It is not logical pricing for them! However, we need to dive a little deeper.

Harada Katsuhiro, the head of the Tekken franchise (and director since the third instalment), shared the incorrect Tekken 2 price on Twitter with the comment, “WHAT A MARVELOUS PRICE SONY”. However, he didn’t get upset about it: when a fan shared that he bought a PS1-era arcade controller signed by Harada, he took it as a joke: “It’s a classic. It’s worth $9999.” Since then, according to IGN, you can’t get games for that much anymore, but it’s certainly a pretty big blunder (again!) from Sony. At least Harada had a good laugh at the company’s clumsiness.

According to the ResetEra forums, Capcom, along with Namco, won’t allow you to buy PS1, PSP classics separately, which was accepted and allowed for PS3 and PSP for many years. No, to get PS4 or PS5 access to Resident Evil: Director’s Cut from Capcom, for example, you have to subscribe to the highest tier of PlayStation Plus… so there will be games that require a subscription. (Or stick to emulation. If you have the games physically, they can’t tell you not to use them on PC, right?)

We’re afraid of the new PlayStation Plus launch in Europe next week…
