Ubisoft has announced the official release date for the next major content update for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which includes a new activity and event.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla was already a huge game when it launched in 2020, but Ubisoft isn’t done with it yet, as it’s getting another major content update on September 27th with update 1.6.1. Update 1.6.1 will likely be one of Valhalla’s last major content releases, but the developers are making sure that players will have plenty to do for a while yet, as it’s set to continue one of last year’s storylines.

Specifically, the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla 1.6.1 update includes a direct sequel to last year’s Tombs of the Fallen DLC and a potentially meta-defining new Ravensthorpe building that allows players to optimize their runes however they see fit. The update also serves as a platform to power the 2022 Oskoreia Festival in Valhalla, where players can participate in unique time-limited activities, earn rewards, and more.

Ubisoft has previously provided some information about Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s new settlement expansion. It looks like the long-awaited Rune Forge will also be available as part of the 1.6.1 update. Of course, details are pretty tight for now, but it seems obvious that the building will allow players to fine-tune their rune pools for endgame progress. High-level loadouts may actually be required for the other half of the update, the second Tombs of the Fallen DLC.

Valhalla’s first Tombs of the Fallen DLC was released last November and added new puzzle- and traversal-focused dungeons for players to explore. However, this particular narrative thread stopped once players got through them all, and it was clear that Ubisoft wanted to do more with them than what they initially did. The chickens have come home to roost by now, and the 1.6.1 update will presumably bring the Tombs of the Fallen saga to a close.

All 1.6.1 content detailed so far will be freely available to all players regardless of DLC ownership. With this, Ubisoft continues the tradition of adding a significant amount of new content to the game with almost every new update. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s 1.6.0 update, for example, introduced an all-new rogue-lite game mode and the Sigrblot Festival, which was similar in nature to the upcoming Oskoreia.

As the hype for Assassin’s Creed Mirage slowly builds, it seems that Ubisoft wants to shut down the northern side of the franchise for the time being. In fact, due to the Oskoreia Festival starting on October 20th, the game is unlikely to receive any major updates in the interim. While Ubisoft has yet to confirm whether this is the case, update 1.6.1 could be one of the last content releases for the Valhalla supplement.
