The Witcher: release date for season 3 and prequels

MOVIE NEWS – We now know when to look out for the third season of The Witcher on Netflix and the prequel called Blood Origin.

During Netflix’s Tudum Live broadcast, the company revealed that The Witcher season three will be released in the summer of 2023. We didn’t get a video, but we did get an image where we could see Freya Allen as Ciri in a boat. However, knowing that we are less than a year away from season three of The Witcher confirms that it will be a shorter wait than we had to endure between seasons one and two. It is explained by the fact that season 2 was filmed during the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. We give them credit for accomplishing what they needed to do despite the quarantines and the infections affecting the cast.

The Witcher’s third season roughly follows the second book of the saga (Andrzej Sapkowski’s book is called Time of Contempt), but we’ve seen more divergence. Namely, Yenn and Geralt in the series adaptation were ready to take on the world together at the end of the second season (along with Ciri), while in the boo,k their relationship had soured. According to Netflix’s previously published synopsis, the trio return to Aretuza, the mages’ stronghold, and gets nicely embroiled in a political conflict (which also sets up the Thanedd coup). How will Netflix handle the remaining three books (Contempt: Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and The Lady of the Lake)?

And at Christmas, fans will most likely be hanging out on Netflix: Blood Origin, the prequel series, will be available on the service from December 25. The cast includes Michelle Yeoh, Sophia Brown, Minnie Driver and Laurence O’Fuarain. The series is set 1200 years before the main saga. There will be no slight departure from the origin story: whereas in the games and books, the monster hunters were created anachronistically by genetic manipulation through the conjunction of spheres, in the series, the elves will play the creative role. The main protagonists will be the three fey characters (played by Yeoh, Brown and O’Fuarain). Yeoh, for example, will play Sian.

So that alone makes Christmas worth waiting for.
