Razer Unveiles “World’s First 5G” Handheld – Here’s Everything You Need To Know!

TECH NEWS – Verizon and Qualcomm have teamed up with Razer to let you play games wherever you are in the world.

Razer’s got a big axe to grind. It’s been less than ten days since Logitech unveiled its handheld console that lets you play GeForce Now, Xbox Cloud, Steam and Google Play games over the cloud. Now it looks like the green company has seen the same fantasy, but it’s going even further: offering games available locally via cloud and hardware.

The new tool will be unveiled in more detail on 15 October.

Verizon has teamed up with Razer and Qualcomm to create the “world’s first 5G gaming handheld” powered by Snapdragon G3x Gen 1. This device will be unveiled in more detail at RazerCon on 15 October. The portable console can “provide access to the games you love, either downloaded to play them locally, streamed from the console, or accessed directly from the cloud.”

The console will be called the Razer Edge 5G, will run on Android, and will provide access to streaming services such as Xbox Cloud Gaming – and even the company’s logo appears at the end of the video. Last year, a console called Snapdragon G3x was unveiled, which was only available to developers.

The handheld console will run on Android locally and will give access to Xbox Cloud Gaming.

According to The Verge, this previously mentioned device used the G3x platform, which will also be used in Edge 5G. Among the goodies Qualcomm is bringing is the ability to play games on 4K screens. Externally, the GPU can handle playback at up to 144 fps. The video also hints at the possibility of DualSense-like adaptive triggers.

Its design is quite similar to Razer’s Kishi V2, with the difference that one is a controller and this is a handheld console. With these few facts on the table, it’s safe to say that the main difference from the Steam Deck is that the new device will be able to work with 5G, while the Valve handheld requires Wi-Fi.
