CD Projekt Red Co-Founder & CEO Is Leaving As They Open New Studio!

CD Projekt Red co-founder and joint CEO Marcin Iwiński has resigned from his position to take up a new role at the company as CDPR continues to expand in North America.

Marcin Iwiński, co-founder and joint CEO of CD Projekt Red for nearly 30 years, has stepped down. The news of his departure comes moments after CDPR issued a strategic update on the company’s future and upcoming titles.

Iwiński will step down as joint CEO and take up the role of Chairman of the Supervisory Board of CD Projekt.

Until the end of 2022, all responsibilities previously held by Iwiński will be handed over to his colleagues. Although Iwiński is stepping down from the top management position, he is enthusiastic about contributing to the work of CDPR in another capacity. Iwiński will succeed Kataryzna Szwarc, the current chair of the CD Project’s supervisory board.

The former CEO shared a lengthy message via the company’s official Twitter account to convey his thoughts to staff and fans. Iwiński is excited about the future of CD Projekt and the company, which employs 1,200 people worldwide. Many of these employees are working on several new titles in CDPR’s development offices. These titles include the first Witcher game in the new trilogy, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 and a new IP. In addition, the Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion is in the final stages of development.

Iwiński will remain a significant shareholder in CD Projekt while holding a non-executive role at the company.

He also plans to support CD Projekt’s management as much as possible actively. As CD Projekt Red is developing several new titles, Iwiński wants to ensure that storytelling remains at the forefront. Iwiński concludes his message by thanking the developers and fans for helping to shape CDPR over the past three decades.

Another studio under the CD Projekt Red umbrella?

Also, in recent news, CDPR is planning to create a third North American studio, alongside Vancouver and The Molasses Flood, to be called CD Projekt Red North America. Like The Molasses Flood, it will be based in Boston. Unfortunately, little is known about their work at the moment. However, it is rumoured that they may be working on a new cyberpunk project called Orion.

It seems that while CD Projekt Red is working on several new games, most of them are still in the early pre-production stage. However, the company is focused on a stable and prosperous release of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. They are eager to maintain the necessary momentum until early next year.
