MOVIE NEWS – A famous voice actor criticises Nintendo for not choosing a voice that would have been more logical.
Illumination has been working on a new Mario movie for a long time, and fans are already criticising it. The film’s creators have chosen an actor for the Italian plumber’s voice that would have been divisive. It would be logical to think that Charles Martinet, who has played the role for more than two decades, would be the one to voice Mario, but unfortunately, it is not the case: Chris Pratt was cast, and his colleague, Tara Strong (Timmy Turner in Fairly Oddparents; she also voiced Harley Quinn several times) did not take kindly to the choice.
Strong first shared a photo on Twitter of her and Martinet, and her comment was, “it should be Charles”, referring to Mario’s voice in the film. Not content with that, she later tweeted, “Voice actors: I’m going to put my heart & soul in this for at least 20 years, help sell billions in merch, make the studios millions of dollars, and make generations around the world happy. Hollywood: we don’t care.”
Strong asked her followers to share their stories about Martinet because she believed “there’s a certain angel on Earth who needs some love”. To which Martinet responded, “Your love and kindness mean more than you could ever know, And genuinely touched my heart. My little eyes seem to be leaking today… with tender affection. Thank you…” It’s good to see a little humanity because nowadays it’s rare.
In the Sonic movies, we have already seen the voice of the video game player replaced by a celebrity actor (Ben Schwartz voices the blue hedgehog). Pratt is not a voice actor, and it can be said that he has no idea about the whole thing: in a video, he says that “in Mario Bros., he stomped countless Koopas”, but he had no way of doing so in that game…
