MOVIE NEWS – Many fans of The Witcher will find it hard to accept Liam Hemsworth as Geralt after three seasons of him playing Henry Cavill and playing him well.
The news that Liam Hemsworth is joining The Witcher exploded like a bombshell yesterday. It seems that the majority of people were not only shocked but also saddened by Henry Cavill’s departure. Others are curious to see how it will end. Hemsworth posted a statement on Instagram about joining the series. At the time of writing, the post has been liked by over 600,000 people. The actor also expressed his excitement to be cast as Geralt, as he is a big Witcher fan.
“As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia,” he wrote.
“Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure.”
Hemsworth added: “Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”
The third season of The Witcher, in which Cavill will be seen for the last time as Geralt, is expected to hit Netflix in the summer of 2023. The fourth season has no release date yet. The first two seasons are available to stream on Netflix. Below is a selection of fan reactions to the news.
Shock and disappointment: fans react to the news of Geralt’s replacement
Reactions to big re-casts like this rarely go down well with fans. Many feel that Cavill is too perfect as Geralt for another actor to play the character, especially after three seasons. In a popular tweet, someone suggested that Cavill had been cast out of the series. Perhaps Cavill will be too busy for The Witcher, given that he will return as Superman in the DCU. But some say that’s too simple an explanation.
“Henry Cavill knew too much about the source material for the Witcher, so Netflix got rid of him,” reads another tweet that many like.
A third Twitter user uses a clip from Breaking Bad, in which Walter White (Bryan Cranston) breaks down while his wife (Anna Gunn) begs him to listen. The tweet describes the clip as “Netflix trying to convince the Witcher fan base that Liam Hemsworth is a good replacement for Henry Cavill.”
“Being a fan of the Witcher Netflix is scary cause you couldn’t possibly think things could get worse and then it does,” complains another fan.
Meanwhile, some choose to have fun with it all. Digital artist BossLogic has posted some artwork of Cavill from various series. He imagined how he might appear in a production like House of the Dragon or a Mass Effect movie now that his schedule is a little more open.

henry cavill a leaving the witcher after begging netflix for the role and being the biggest fan of the franchise is making the report that the writers hate the books seem more and more plausible. they chased that man away from the series. this is sick.
