On November 4, 2002, the first Ratchet & Clank was released for PlayStation 2 by Insomniac Games. Since then, the series has become a Sony franchise mainstay.
Sony Interactive Entertainment and Insomniac Games have announced on the PlayStation Blog that the PlayStation 5 exclusive (another rarity…) Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has received update 1.004. It brings the 20th Anniversary Pack to the game, celebrating the franchise’s history. In addition to the Commando armour (we’ll name the game in brackets which inspired it: Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando), the Holoflux (Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time), the Quest (Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty), the Marauder (Ratchet: Deadlocked) and the Clank armour (inspired by the eponymous character…) are also included as part of the free update.
Also, on the PlayStation Blog, the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers (which includes PS3 games running from the cloud, which isn’t fair as PS1, PS2, and PSP titles run locally…) will be expanded by five more games on November 15. So they’ve announced five games for Premium subscribers. Still, it doesn’t occur to them that they should be communicating the November update to the PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium offering any sooner. “Later in the month”, huh?
So, the five games (all PS3 editions) are Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, Ratchet & Clank: Deadlocked, and Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. These five games, also on PS3, have been part of the service: Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One, Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, and Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus. Only two PSP titles are missing (Size Matters, Secret Agent Clank).
This PlayStation Plus Premium update is also a bit sad, as Sony has owned Insomniac for several years, and it’s almost sure that no PS1/PS2/PSP titles will be added to the line-up, apart from possibly Syphon Filter 3 (PS1).
