Virtuos Is Sus: Will They “Eat Snakes”?

Konami might not just be returning to its Silent Hill IP after years of silence (and annoying pachinko)…

There used to be a rumour that a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was being worked on by a renowned porting/support studio, Virtuos, and the company’s lead programmer’s LinkedIn profile revealed that he was working on an “AAA action-adventure game remake”. While these sound interesting, they don’t mean much without further context. Perhaps that’s why Virtuos thought it would add to the mix by including Konami on its website.

Not for show, but because the Japanese company was a Virtuos client recently. The studio also claims to have experience with the FOX Engine left behind by Hideo Kojima. It was used for Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and after Kojima’s departure, Metal Gear Survive used the same technology, but the franchise has put the handbrake on (with a bit of pachinko appearance, but that is irrelevant to us).

If indeed the originally PS2-exclusive Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is being remade, it will be interesting to see how the story of Big Boss (because that’s not THE Snake we saw in the first two games…) can be modernised by Virtuos as the FOX Engine was nowhere to be found in November 2004. It’s also strange that they wouldn’t start with the first game (if you want to be pedantic, historically, it IS the first…) because they could start with the first two Metal Gears. Then Konami could do Metal Gear Solid, but since the return to Silent Hill begins with the Silent Hill 2 Remake, the illogical choice seems logical, if that makes sense…

However, we have to say here what we always say in these situations: it’s not official yet, and neither Konami nor Virtuos will comment further until some announcement is made.
