Video game giant Gearbox Entertainment is to acquire 3D technology pioneer Captured Dimensions, with a strong film development background.

 

 

The long list of gaming acquisitions in recent years looks to continue in 2023. Most recently, it seems, Gearbox Entertainment has acquired technology company Captured Dimensions. The companies have previously worked together on various game projects. In a statement, company officials further explained the reason for the acquisition and what it means for the two companies in the future.

3D scanning company Captured Dimensions is a veteran in the entertainment industry. In its ten years in business, it has worked with industry giants such as Lionsgate, EA, Sony Pictures and Netflix, among others.

Some of their cinematic credits include Avatar, Black Panther, The Joker, A Wrinkle in Time and many more.

Jordan Williams, president and founder of Captured Dimensions, released a statement regarding the acquisition. Williams said the merger gives them “an incredible runway for growth and opportunity.” The company looks forward to “providing best-in-class services to our clients and new partners.” He also said that the technology company is excited to work with “some of the most talented developers around the world.” Williams is expected to remain with the company after the acquisition and will report directly to Randy Pitchford, Gearbox’s president and founder.

Gearbox Entertainment also spoke about the acquisition in a statement released by Sean Haran, the company’s chief business officer. He praised the talent joining the company, saying, “this deal brings a wealth of talent into the Gearbox family in several key areas, and I’m excited to welcome them.” Haran also mentioned the technological opportunities this acquisition brings to the company.

“This acquisition brings incredible technology into the fold for future projects and enables further expansion of offerings to strategic partners across multiple business units.”

With the news of Gearbox’s new Shanghai studio and the acquisition of Captured Dimensions, 2023 promises to be an exciting year for the games company for the time being. Captured Dimensions’ experience in delivering high-quality 3D technology will hopefully continue to enhance the video game industry in the years to come. Regardless, the merger of two proven talented companies is excellent news for fans of both.
