A new leak suggests that PlayStation could soon show off third-party content, presumably during an upcoming State of Play event.
A fresh rumour claims PlayStation will soon be announcing some third-party content. It will do so during an upcoming State of Play event. Sony held many State of Play events in 2022, showcasing internally and externally developed games from various genres.
State of Play shows have generally been smaller events focused on games outside of the AAA space, but in 2022 that trend changed thanks to several significant announcements.
These included new reveals such as Tekken 8, Rise of the Ronin and the Resident Evil 4 remake. Also, trailers for Final Fantasy XVI, God of War: Ragnarok, Street Fighter 6 and other games. Now it looks like Sony may soon announce a new showcase with a heavy emphasis on third-party content.
As reported by Insider Gaming, the seemingly retired leaker known as The Snitch has posted new information on Discord. He revealed that they had received a DM from a reliable source about Sony’s plans. It states that PlayStation will soon be announcing “third-party stuff”. This is probably a reference to the new State of Play event coming shortly. Fans should note that while The Snitch was a reliable leaker, all rumours should be treated with caution.
What kind of third-party content can we expect? Rumours of a Metal Gear Solid remake have been circulating for some time, and according to leaks, it will be a PS 5 exclusive. So Sony could take the opportunity to announce a Metal Gear Solid remake or similar third-party exclusives.
It may also not be limited to exclusive titles, as previous PlayStation events have seen the unveiling of games such as Hogwarts Legacy and Street Fighter 6.
So far, the leak shared by The Snitch does not confirm that Sony will be holding a State of Play event soon. But based on the information available, this is the most likely scenario.
Sony usually reserves internal content for PS Showcase events. However, the publisher did not hold one in 2022. One rumour suggests that Sony hasn’t held a Showcase due to the ongoing investigation into Activision’s acquisition by Microsoft, although there were some first-party announcements last year. Perhaps the biggest was confirmation of a Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 release window. It is currently scheduled for release in the autumn of 2023.
