CD Projekt RED (abbreviated to CDPR onwards) is raising the bar set by The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine in terms of size and budget with Phantom Liberty, the only expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. It will only be available for the current consoles (and PC, of course).
Cyberpunk 2077 has had a rough last two years. Still, things are slowly starting to recover (initially, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions were washed out by the Google Stadia port, handled by QLOC, and while it was a bit more restrained graphically than the PC release, it still offered a more stable experience). True, the previously planned standalone multiplayer project for Cyberpunk 2077 has fallen victim. The Polish team is making just one expansion for the game, which will skip the 2013 consoles and their half-generation updates.
Mark Bugdoł, CD Projekt’s investor relations manager, told the Polish newspaper Parkiet that the studio’s most significant add-on to date will be Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. Still, he could not say when its marketing campaign would start, nor did he give any details about its release date. The studio is happy with how things developed for the expansion. It could be the end of the story right then and there, but CDPR confirmed to WCCFTech in English what Bugdoł was referring to: financially, it will be the biggest project ever, so V will eventually dethrone Geralt in the process.
Cyberpunk 2077 will be set in a new district, Dogtown, and will feature a new character, an FIA agent named Solomon Reed, as one of its key players. Idris Elba will voice him. We also know that he’s working for the New United States, and it’s confirmed that Johnny Silverhand will be returning, giving Keanu Reeves extra work (and therefore extra pay) after the base game. The expansion will be released sometime this year for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
If we see something called Cyberpunk 2077 Game of the Year Edition in stores, it will be the base game and Phantom Liberty in one package (we wrote about it in the past).
