Ballerina: How Ana de Armas Will Fight Differently from Keanu Reeves in John Wick?

MOVIE NEWS – The stunt coordinator of John Wick 4 and Ballerina, Stephen Dunlevy, revealed how the fighting style will vary in the two movies. The action of Ballerina and John Wick is adapted to the characters.

The world of John Wick is expanding: we can follow not only the main hero’s revenge story, but also a side movie (Ballerina) and a series (The Continental) are in the works. Ballerina introduces a new character, played by Ana de Armas. She is a ballet girl who learns to be a killer at the same place as John Wick.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant for John Wick: Chapter 4, Dunlevy hinted at a different action style in Ballerina. He explained how the characters affect the fighting style: Wick is an experienced veteran, while de Armas’ character is still learning the craft. This is what Dunlevy said:

Stephen Dunlevy: You see John Wick with Keanu, this character. You see a tired, old warrior veteran. He has experienced everything; he has done everything. That’s why he has a very polished style. He does everything he does because he survived it. Ana’s character on the other hand will be a younger and more novice killer in Ballerina. She will make mistakes and learn from them. The brilliance of these characters lies in their ability to adapt to their environment and use everyday objects as weapons and such. We will see her adapt to her situation and also understand where this training comes from. John Wick has survived for so long because he got very good foundations in training. We will see her make mistakes and adapt and survive.

Ballerina will be the first movie in the John Wick franchise that shows this world from the perspective of a different character. Diving into the John Wick world as a killer-in-training instead of someone who tries to escape from this life will show new aspects of this universe while also revealing John Wick’s own backstory through a new character’s story. Ballerina is reportedly another revenge-focused story, but this time de Armas’ character is hunting down the people who killed her family.

Although he is not the lead, John Wick will return in Ballerina with some fan-favorite characters, such as The Director, who was wounded after she helped John Wick in Parabellum. Ballerina has a chance to not only shed light on John Wick’s past, but also on how other characters see the Baba Yaga. De Armas’ character may be understandably cautious of the famous killer considering his reputation and how his actions affect The Director.
