Konami may be preparing for an imminent revival of the Metal Gear Solid franchise. This has been hinted at by a rumour that has just surfaced, published by a well-known industry insider.
A well-known industry insider recently hinted at an imminent revival of the Metal Gear Solid series. This development coincides with a recent rumour. According to the latter, Konami and PlayStation have signed an exclusive deal for a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
Prior to the aforementioned PlayStation exclusivity claims, VGC’s Andy Robinson had already reported on a possible release window for the MGS3 remake.
He also suggested that Konami was still considering some remake of the series.
The next PlayStation Showcase was recently announced. Robinson indicated on Twitter that the event would include new MGS series-related news. While the insider did not elaborate on his cryptic tweet, previous reports on the matter suggest that the MGS3 remake is the most likely candidate for a release at the event.
Gamers have been clamouring for an MGS3 remake for a long time. A modernized version of the fourth instalment in the series is another popular request among fans. Not least because Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is effectively stuck on PS3 to this day. Snake Eater eventually made its way to everything from Xbox 360 to handhelds such as PS Vita and 3DS. The PS3’s exotic Cell architecture has always been a challenge for developers. It makes it difficult to port exclusive games. Many believe this is the main reason why MGS4 never made it to other platforms.
The upcoming PlayStation Showcase is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 24 May, from 1 pm. As usual, Sony plans to stream the event on Twitch and YouTube. It’s unknown whether the MGS series will be a highlight of the coverage. Assuming it appears during the showcase.
If only because Sony is also expected to showcase Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Final Fantasy 16 at the event.
Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us multiplayer game could also make an appearance at the showcase. The studio has promised that more information about the mysterious project will be revealed sometime this year. Although most of the games fans are expected to see at the upcoming PlayStation Showcase are scheduled to be released by the end of the year, earlier reports suggested that the rumoured remake of Metal Gear Solid 3 is aiming for a 2024 release.
