In any case, Rainman was a huge turning point in Tom Cruise’s professional career, because for the first time he played a complex, evolving character who comes to a cathartic realization at the end of the story. “I enjoyed every minute of the shoot, and somehow I instinctively knew that this film was a big turning point for me,” said Cruise, who played romantic heroes with boyish smiles before Rainman. and he has already made his mark as an action star thanks to Top Gun. “From an acting point of view, the role of Charlie Babbitt was very challenging, but at the same time, I was more than happy to carry the burden of the development of the character giving the dramatic arc of the story.”

Cruise‘s positive attitude was in stark contrast to the attitude of the other main actor, Dustin Hoffman, who wanted out of the film after two weeks, saying he hated it so much work to give the role to Richard Dreyfuss or anyone else. Tom Cruise also went his own way.
