This film was the turning point in Tom Cruise’s career

MOVIE NEWS – Many people believe that the movie “Rainman” has not been kind to the weather. Well, not because of the quality of the acting, but because it depicts autism in a simplified way.

Since then, we know a lot more about this spectrum disorder, but the fact that there are still very few sure takers indicates the complexity of the situation. In any case, Rainman was a huge turning point in Tom Cruise’s professional career, because for the first time he played a complex, evolving character who comes to a cathartic realization at the end of the story. “I enjoyed every minute of the shoot, and somehow I instinctively knew that this film was a big turning point for me,” said Cruise, who played romantic heroes with boyish smiles before Rainman. and he has already made his mark as an action star thanks to Top Gun. “From an acting point of view, the role of Charlie Babbitt was very challenging, but at the same time, I was more than happy to carry the burden of the development of the character giving the dramatic arc of the story.”

Cruise‘s positive attitude was in stark contrast to the attitude of the other main actor, Dustin Hoffman, who wanted out of the film after two weeks, saying he hated it so much work to give the role to Richard Dreyfuss or anyone else. (Incidentally, Mel Gibson was originally asked, but he didn’t like the character.) Then Hoffmann had an epiphany and got so into the role of the autistic Ray that he eventually won an Oscar for his performance.

Tom Cruise also went his own way. Although he has three Oscar nominations for his outstanding dramatic roles (Born on the 4th of July, Jerry Maguire, Magnolia), the audience loves him more for what he achieved as an action hero. He would also like to prove himself in this field, in his latest film, Mission: Impossible Showdown First Part, for example, he presents the most reckless stunt in the history of cinema, which seems to be truly life-threatening, the work film of which can be viewed here.

The second half of the first part, which can be seen this summer, will be released next year – Cruise will presumably try to top his current performance.
