According to them, the latest update from Apex Legends hints that Respawn Entertainment will return to the Titanfall IP with a greater focus.
We say greater focus because Apex Legends is set in the Titanfall universe (a standalone spin-off), so the team hasn’t strayed too far from what it launched nearly a decade ago on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC. Respawn didn’t care much about Titanfall because after the unfortunate timing of the release of the much stronger Titanfall 2 in 2016 (with the example of Immortals of Aveum, it’s safe to say that Electronic Arts didn’t learn from their mistake… Titanfall 2 came out between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, and IoA between Baldur’s Gate III and Starfield), the studio worked on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and its sequel Survivor alongside Apex Legends.
In the Apex Legends Harbingers Collection Event patch notes, a mysterious message (incoming transmission) with a strange subject (Nessie) has been revealed, and three numbers have been included. These numbers cover the release date of Titanfall, Titanfall 2, and Apex Legends in Unix time. It’s a pretty strange move from Respawn, and if the studio isn’t just messing with the public, something might be in the works.
Earlier this year, Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson said that Respawn was working on a new project, and several studio members have hinted that they are working on a new game after Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Vince Zampella, CEO of Respawn (who also holds the top job in the Battlefield franchise), has previously said that he wants to bring Titanfall 3 to life at the right time with the right idea, so he has not ruled out the possibility of a sequel.
If Titanfall 3 does eventually materialize, we’d also like to say to Electronic Arts that they shouldn’t release it when several high-profile games are hitting the shelves…
