A week before the global release of Alan Wake 2, developer Remedy Entertainment has shared the PC system requirements for the survival horror sequel. 13 years after the release of the original cult hit, fans are excitedly waiting for Alan Wake 2 to bring a new twist to the series.

While the original Alan Wake game revolved more around cinematic action-adventure storytelling, Alan Wake 2 seems to have gone full survival horror mode, but with the same haunting and atmospheric visuals that put the series on the map. Trailers for Alan Wake 2 have praised the psychological thriller’s stylish approach, but the stunning visuals come at a technical price for PC gamers.

Developer Remedy Entertainment has shared the PC system requirements for Alan Wake 2 on social media. In addition to the minimum requirements for PC gamers, Remedy also announced the recommended, ultra, and even ray tracing spec requirements at low, medium, and high settings for one of Fall 2023’s most anticipated games.

For 1080p / 30FPS gaming, the minimum specified requirements are an RTX 2060 / i5-7600K combo or AMD equivalent. For 4K gaming, you’ll need at least an RTX 4070, and for a high-end 2060p experience, you’ll need an RTX 4080 with ray tracing. However, a 1440p experience or even 1080p at 60FPS requires at least an RTX 30 series graphics card or equivalent AMD card.

At first glance, the requirements seem somewhat robust. The RTX 2060 / i5-7600K combo is not too far from Baldur’s Gate 3’s updated recommended requirements. However, this combo is listed as a minimum requirement for Alan Wake 2. The RTX 3060 is listed as the lowest recommended GPU, and the RTX 3070 is required for ray tracing.

Some players have already expressed their displeasure with the steeper requirements in the comments, but luckily PC isn’t the only platform Alan Wake 2 is available on. The game will be released for both PS5 and Xbox Series X/S at the same time, so it’s definitely a current-gen experience. As the requirements show, the high-fidelity, movie-like gameplay certainly comes with some technical requirements on the PC side.

The other good news for those stuck in the PC-only gaming ecosystem is that there are still some great CPU and GPU deals going on right now. Intel Core i5 and i7 processors are dropping in price, as are RTX 30 and even RTX 40 series graphics cards, as are many of AMD’s counterparts.

Alan Wake 2 will be released on October 27 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
